Midlands Reading Consortium (MRC)

Who We Are

The Midlands Reading Consortium (MRC) is a volunteer tutoring initiative by United Way of the Midlands founded in 2007 targeting pre-kindergarten through second-grade students. Tutors focus on improving language skills and reading proficiency.

What We Do

Join the more than 2,200 people in the community who have already changed the lives of thousands of students in the Midlands. Just 30 minutes a week can make the difference between whether a child advances to the next grade and graduates from high school on time. United Way of the Midlands needs your help to make a difference. We provide all the training and tutoring materials you need to close the achievement gap and ensure that all students perform at grade level.

Since the Midlands Reading Consortium (MRC) was founded in 2007, tutors have helped more than 3,000 students. Of those students, United Way has an average record of assisting in passing 97% of them to the next grade. The MRC program has been placed into over 20 schools and after school programs all across the Midlands.
