ATTENTION: This need is for NEW TUTORS who have not served with MRC in the last 3 years. If you are a returning tutor, please confirm your intentions by responding to the "RETURNING TUTORS" need.
The Midlands Reading Consortium (MRC) is a partnership between United Way of the Midlands and local school districts across Richland, Lexington, Newberry, Fairfield and Orangeburg counties. We are looking for tutors who can volunteer 30 minutes of their time on a weekly basis from September 2021 until May 2022. MRC volunteers tutor children in Pre-K to 3rd grade who need assistance with improvement in reading engagement and language development.
Due to COVID-19 considerations, virtual tutoring options will be available to allow volunteers to read to entire classrooms via the teacher's Smartboard, or to read one-on-one with students through the use of classroom tablets. Technology training on the virtual platform used will be provided by MRC staff. Returning to in-person volunteering is up to the discretion of the school district(s) and that information will be shared as received.
Please see list below of MRC school partners. In your response, please include your best availability and school preference. During registration, you will be prompted to submit information for the MRC background check. MRC covers the cost of all background checks, but if you would like to contribute all or a portion of the cost of your background check, you will be able to do so.
