Who We Are

The vision of Lutheran Services Carolinas is to fulfill the proclamation of Christ in John 10:10, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” Empowered by Christ, they strive to walk together with all they serve. With roots stretching back to the 1880’s, Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas was established in 1976 as the NC Division of the Lutheran Children’s Home and in 1991, with the blessing of the NC and SC Synods, adopted the name Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas. Today, as LSC, the organization serves the people of North and South Carolina through foster care and adoption services, residential services for adults and children at risk or with special needs, counseling and psychiatric services, transitional housing, veterans services, disaster response services, and refugee resettlement.

What We Do

Lutheran Services Carolinas (LSC)provides several services to families and children in the Midlands area of South Carolina:

  • Supportive Living Residences: LSC now has ten residences where adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities can receive the person-centered care and support they need to become as productive and independent as possible.
  • Therapeutic Foster Care: LSC serves children and youth who must live apart from their parents because of abuse, neglect, or other circumstances.
  • Transitional Foster Care for Unaccompanied Children: LSC provides loving foster homes to unaccompanied children under the age of 18 who are not in the care of a parent or legal guardian and lack immigration status.
  • Refugee and Immigrant Services: Lutheran Services Carolinas welcomes refugees and immigrants and helps them transition into a new life and a new culture. All refugees are automatically enrolled in the Reception and Placement Program.
  • Transitional Living for Young Adults: LSC is helping young adults, 18 to 25, who have been in foster care and are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Specially trained case managers work with program participants to identify their needs and goals, create a life plan, access resources, and establish a supportive community network.
  • Disaster Case Management: LSC facilitates disaster preparedness and response services to congregations, families, and individuals. In the event of a disaster, after local emergency agencies respond, LSC works with Lutheran Disaster Response to support long-term relief and recovery efforts.
