Who We Are

If you are searching for an opportunity to become involved in disaster response operations, then joining a Public Health Reserve Corps is for you!

The PHRC supports the S.C. Department of Health & Environmental Control by using trained healthcare and non-healthcare volunteers to help the agency provide services to the public during disasters.

We also offer opportunities to become involved in non-emergency preparedness activities.  Currently, our PHRC volunteers are engaged in becoming certified Stop-the-Bleed train-the-trainers and Until Help Arrives instructors.  Over 65 PHRC volunteers are now trained instructors ready to go out into local communities and provide classes but we need more instructors to help make our communities more resilient and prepared.  If you would like more information about becoming part of our PHRC team, send me an email at beasleds@dhec.sc.gov.

What We Do

Founded in 2006, the Public Health Reserve Corps Supports DHEC's (SC Department of Health and Environmental Control) vision of Healthy People Living in Healthy Communities.

  • Administration of life-saving medications
  • Operations of a Special Medical Needs Shelter
  • Medical surge operations
  • Community education and outreach
  • Mass vaccination clinics
  • Support other community partners such as hospitals during response efforts
