Junior Achievement (JA)’s elementary school programs are the foundation of its K-12 curricula. Six sequential themes, each with five hands-on activities, as well as an after-school and capstone experience, work to change students’ lives by helping them understand business and economics.

Junior Achievement (JA) was founded nationally in 1919 beginning as a small organization that connected youth with community business leaders to help students develop entrepreneurial skills and financial savvy through the execution of a small business endeavor. The original JA Company Program was the single curriculum offered by JA until the 1970s when the organization began to expand the scope of programs offered. Today, JA offers 24 different financial literacy curricula and reaches nearly 9.8 million students in grades K-12th in 123 countries around the world.

Junior Achievement of Greater South Carolina, Inc. (JAGSC) was incorporated in 1968 to serve Richland County in South Carolina. Since then, JAGSC has greatly expanded, now serving 34 counties in South Carolina.

JAGSC has taught financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and workforce readiness skills to almost 400,000 students since its founding in Columbia in 1968, and has been awarded the Junior Achievement® Summit Award for excellence in program impact, program quality, financial solvency, and management effectiveness.
