8 volunteers are needed, to work in 2 hours shifts, to help set-up, check-in, clear tables/trays, and clean-up during and after the Women's Shelter Thanksgiving "Souper" on November 21 at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Thompson Hall.
The Women's Shelter, which provides "a safe environment for homeless women in crisis and the necessary resources to build strong and healthy lives," has been operating in the Midlands for over 30 years, offering a comprehensive program to an average of 90 women per year. This "souper" is their only fundraiser and they rely on volunteers and donors to make it happen!
Join WIP as we support this fabulous cause. Dinner is $5, and additional donations are warmly received. The "souper" takes place from 5:30-7:30 pm and our volunteers will be helping in 2 hour blocks from 3:45-8:00 pm.
In the words of Executive Director Kathy Riley, "A reminder that hunger and homelessness exists in our community, the "souper" is meant to be a teachable moment for everyone about the true meaning of the Thanksgiving holiday. Many have used the evening as a 'kick-off' to their holiday season ... and to catch up with old friends and share stories from the previous year."
