We are GARC, a student-led community at USC dedicated to supporting refugees in Columbia and beyond. Our mission is to create a welcoming, empowering environment where refugees can access resources, build connections, and thrive in their new communities.
Founded on values of compassion, inclusion, and advocacy, we believe that everyone deserves safety, dignity, and opportunity. Through tutoring, mentorship, and community events, we work to bridge gaps and foster understanding between refugees and the broader community.
At GARC, we are more than a club, we are a family committed to making a positive impact, one connection at a time. Join us in standing with refugees and building a stronger, more inclusive Columbia.
What We Do
Gamecocks Aiding Refugees in Columbia (GARC) is a student organization at the University of South Carolina dedicated to supporting refugee communities in the Columbia area through direct service, education, and advocacy. The group provides essential assistance such as ESL tutoring to help refugees improve their language skills, move-in support to ease the transition into new homes, and organizes donation drives to supply necessary items like clothing and school supplies. Beyond hands-on help, GARC is committed to raising awareness about refugee issues by hosting training sessions, guest speakers, and workshops that educate members and the wider campus community. Through these efforts, GARC fosters a welcoming environment while empowering refugees and advocating for their rights and well-being in the local community.
