Who We Are

Palmetto Conservation Foundation (PCF) is a not for profit organization headquartered in Columbia, SC. Its signature project is the Palmetto Trail, South Carolina's premier cross-state trail for hiking, backpacking, cycling and mountain biking, camping and other active outdoor recreation. The trail provides free public access to about 380 miles of passages across 14 counties from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the low country coast. The scenic Palmetto Trail, one of 16 cross-state trails in the United States, is recognized regionally and nationally as a visitor-friendly attraction.

What We Do

Maintaining the Trail requires a huge amount of help, and we cherish those individuals and groups that assist.  We can arrange a one-time opportunity for groups ranging from scouts to clubs to corporate work-day participants.  Tasks range from simple litter clean-up efforts to vegetation and tree trimming to construction or repair of structures such as boardwalks and small bridges. We also offer the opportunity for volunteers to become involved as passage monitors; the eyes and ears of the Palmetto Trail. Monitors are responsible for surveying designated passages for maintenance needs or issues that need to be addressed. These reports are then passed along to our Trail Coordinators who work with trail volunteers to make improvements.
