Who We Are

Mission Statement: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

What We Do

Programs:

  • Family Crisis/Stability: The Family Stability program at Midlands Area Command is dedicated to preventing homelessness and displacement for families with children.
  • Hope Chest: The HOPE CHEST program is dedicated to supporting families and individuals as they navigate critical life transitions, such as moving into permanent housing or recovering from other hardships. By providing essential food staples and household items, the program directly addresses food insecurity—one of the most significant stressors during these challenging times.
  • Doing The Most Good After-School Reading/Tutoring Program: DTMG program is an afternoon reading program designed to assist students in grades 1-5 who read below grade level. The program is offered at no cost. Our teachers provide individual attention to students in need.
  • Kids to Camp:  Kids to Camp provides children living in poverty with the enriching experience of attending summer camp for a week.  Programs and activities are designed to meet the physical, social and spiritual needs of campers.  The camp experience helps children develop good, healthy habits in cleanliness, proper rest, diet and exercise.
  •   Operation: School Supplies: Operation: School Supplies program offers children living in poverty the opportunity to receive new backpacks and school supplies as they start the new school year.
  • Christmas Assistance: Every year, The Salvation Army’s Christmas programs serves over 900 families and 2,200 children by bringing hope and comfort during the holiday season to families who experience poverty year-round.  The Angel Tree program makes it possible for mothers and fathers to share gifts with their children on Christmas morning.
  • Emergency Disaster Services: The Salvation Army of the Midlands is always on stand-by to respond to local natural disasters.  Our team of staff and volunteers are connected with local Emergency Management agencies and at-the-ready to provide meals when our communities are hit with a disaster.
