Repairing homes. Restoring hope. Living United.
Come join YLS on Saturday, October 8th as we spend the day repairing a home in our Midlands community.
Tasks will include painting, basic construction work, plumbing, caulking, house cleaning, roofing, and yard work.
We'll be volunteering from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
- The location and details are TBA, but will be emailed to participants the week of the event.
If you have a LIVE UNITED t-shirt we ask that you wear it the day of. Need a t-shirt? No problem. Write your t-shirt size in the 'notes' section when responding to this need and we will provide one for you the day of.
Please bring the attached waiver signed with you the day of the event.
HELPFUL HINTS FROM HOME WORKS
Arrive at your respective home by 8:00 a.m. or the time designated by your group leader; once everyone has arrived, the group will open in prayer led by an adult or student (*Covid update: Homeowner may join if they are home and comfortable joining the group for this).
· Spend time, sit and chat with the residents of the home. We are here to serve and help them. Visiting is just as excellent a use of your time as the repairs themselves (Covid update: Volunteers may greet and have conversations with the homeowner outdoors only, as their comfort level allows).
· Please sign your name on the sign-in sheet and wear the provided Home Works wristband (in red folder) for the duration of each work day.
· Volunteers are expected to stay until all tasks are completed. Please notify your Site Leader and/or Registration/Safety Leader if you need to leave the site.
· Please bring a bagged lunch unless your group has other arrangements. Coolers of water / ice will be provided. Please bring your own water bottle.
· Wear work clothes: i.e. crew neck tee shirt, work-appropriate pants and shoes/ boots. No open toed shoes/ sandals.
· Wear sunscreen (hats are also encouraged).
· Remember that often the tasks are messy or involve painting.
· Determine whether you are current with regards to your tetanus shot.
· If possible, bring work- gloves. We will have these available, just not as nice as the ones you have.
· If you bring any tools, please label them. (We provide all tools as well.)
· Clean-up is part of the day and all hands are needed!
