Women in Philanthropy invites you to volunteer with us during Volunteer Week at this year's Walk A Mile in Their Shoes.
Walk A Mile In Their Shoes is an evening of our community coming together to support Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands, its mission, and the survivors we know and love. April 11, 2019, marks the tenth anniversary of Walk A Mile in Columbia. Over the past nine years, thousands of South Carolinians, including survivors, have walked with STSM and shown their support of ending violence in our state. Last year alone, 1,487 superheroes walked a mile for sisters, brothers, parents, grandparents, classmates, coworkers, daughters, sons, neighbors, cousins, uncles, friends, spouses, and partners, and raised $97,000 for trauma-focused healing services provided by STSM.
This year we need YOU to help us cheer on our walkers! By signing up as a Walk a Mile Motivator, simply meet us at the statehouse with your enthusiasm and energy, and staff will place you along the walk route to amp up the atmosphere. We will have some signs on site for you to wave, but you can also make and bring your own if you have encouraging words you wish to share with the crowd. You will need to arrive no later than 6pm so we can have you in place before the walk begins, and you will be dismissed as soon as the last walker finishes (about 45 minutes).
