Consider the possibilities of volunteering 30 minutes a week to assist a striving reader! Did you know: A student entering fourth grade not reading on grade level is four times less likely to graduate on time? You can help by signing up now!
You are invited to become a part of United Way Midlands Reading Consortium (MRC)! Volunteers provide one-on-one reading support to prekindergarten - third grade students across the Midlands. Our 2023-2024 program will run from October – May. Volunteers will be accepted through February 2024 for the 2023-2024 school year.
The 2023-2024 MRC elementary school list is below. When completing your volunteer application, please include your best availability and school preference.
During registration, you may be prompted to submit information for the MRC background check. Background checks are required for new MRC volunteers and must be renewed every two years. Returning volunteers may be asked to complete a new background check. You will be directed to a new site for the background check. Please complete steps 1-4 to finish the application process. Once your background check is completed and cleared, you will receive an email to finish your volunteer registration. If you do not receive that email within 2 business days, please email volunteer@uway.org for assistance.
MRC covers the cost of all background checks, but if you would like to contribute all or a portion of the cost of your background check, you will be able to do so.
